Do not take if you have heart disease, high blood pressure or on blood thinning agents. Yohimbe should never be taken with substances or foods that contain the amino acid tyramine which includes liver, cheese, red wine, some diet aids and decongestants. Yohimbe should be avoided if any of the following conditions are present: hypotension (low blood pressure); diabetes; heart, liver, or kidney disease; nervous disorders, such as schizophrenia. Yohimbe has caused anxiety reactions and even psychosis. Symptoms of overdose include: weakness, nervous stimulation followed by paralysis, fatigue and stomach disorders. May lower blood pressure and heart rate. May potentiate heart medications. May potentiate diuretic drugs. Should not be used in large doses because it can irritate the gastro-intestinal tract. Even though this herbal aphrodisiac is potent and effective, it does have shortcomings. One of the side effects of high dose Tongkat Ali herb use is insomnia. Lack of adequate sleep, when repeated over many days, can lower sex drive. So it’s better to take smaller amounts over several days than a very high amount in one day. Being patient and taking lower doses is the preferred option. High doses can increase heart rate which is not acceptable to those who have heart disease. Keep out of reach of children.
